H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the City of Warwick are matters of paramount importance to this House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, Amtrak is making changes to the railroad track for its high speed electrified train project; and

WHEREAS, Residents living near the railroad track are experiencing structural damage and other damage to their homes due to vibration from trains traveling on the railroad track; and

WHEREAS, There was a public hearing at Warwick City Hall on March 25, 1998, at which residents described the problems caused by vibration from the trains; and

WHEREAS, A letter dated May 4, 1998 detailing the issues raised at the March 25th meeting was sent by the Planning Director to Amtrak; and

WHEREAS, Amtrak has not responded to the issues stated in the letter or questions posed in the letter; and

WHEREAS, The problems described by the residents living near the railroad track must be addressed; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby memorializes the members of the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation to contact Amtrak and request Amtrak to assist the residents living in the city near the railroad track and to have Amtrak remedy the problems caused by vibration; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the United States Senators and Congressmen from the State of Rhode Island.
