It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. That portion of Section 1 of Chapter 1109 of the Public Laws, 1892, entitled "An Act in Relation to the Election of Town Officers in the Town of West Greenwich," as amended by chapter 1394 of the public laws, 1906, by chapter 1154 of the public laws, 1914, and by chapter 3265 of the public laws, 1954 and by chapter 209 of the public laws, 1960, and by chapter 187 of the public laws, 1964, relating to the assessment of taxes in said town, is hereby further amended to read as follows:

"Section. 1. * * *

{DEL "A tax assessor for the town of West Greenwich shall be elected at large by the qualified electors of said town for a term of 2 years. At the election on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November, 1964, the assessor shall be elected for said term. Upon the election and qualification of the said assessor, the board of tax assessors of the said town as provided in chapter 3265 of the public laws of 1954, shall stand abolished and the provisions of said chapter 3265 of the public laws of 1954 relating to said board of assessors shall stand repealed." {ADD "A tax assessor for the town of West Greenwich shall be appointed by the Town Council for a term of 5 years. The first said appointment shall be effective as of July 1, 1994 and subsequent appointments shall be made every five years thereafter. During said term, the appointed tax assessor shall be subject to removal during said term of office only for good and sufficient cause. ADD}

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage and all acts and parts of acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.
