H  O  U  S  E     R  E  S  O  L  U  T  I  O  N

WHEREAS, For 46 years, the Bristol Fire Department has honored their fallen comrades with the annual observance of Firefighter's Memorial Sunday; and

WHEREAS, Fire, the friend and enemy of human beings, has long concerned the minds of all. Hearing the screech of sirens and the roar of motors, can stir the blood of people, young and old; and

WHEREAS, Members of that unselfish organization of men and women, who hold devotion to duty above personal risk, who count dedication to service above personal comfort and convenience, carry on the tradition of service to their community and strive unceasingly to find better ways of protecting the lives homes, and property of their fellow citizens from the ravages of fire and other disasters; and

WHEREAS, A hero is an average person who does something extraordinary to help someone else in need. A hero is a firefighter who runs into a burning building, never thinking of themselves; and

WHEREAS, The Town of Bristol will honor these heroic men and women on Sunday June 10, 2001 with an 11:30 Mass at St. Mary's Church, a parade led by General Chairman Fred W. Serbst and ceremonies at the Firefighter's Memorial Park; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby extends their sincerest gratitude to all the men and women who stand ready everyday to put their lives on the line when the alarm bell rings and commemorates June 10, 2001 as Firefighter's Memorial Sunday in the Town of Bristol; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Bristol Fire Department and the Fireman's Memorial and Welfare Committee.
