It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 42-72.5-1 of the General Laws in Chapter 42-72.5 entitled "Children's Cabinet" is hereby amended to read as follows:

{ADD 42-72.5-1. Establishment. -- ADD} There is hereby established within the executive branch of state government a children's cabinet. The cabinet shall be comprised of: the director of the department of administration {DEL , DEL} {ADD ; ADD} {DEL as chairperson; DEL} the director of the department of children, youth, and families; the director of the department of mental health, retardation, and hospitals; the director of the department of health; the commissioner of higher education; the commissioner of elementary and secondary education; and the director of the department of human services; the director of state library services; {DEL and DEL} the director of the office of substance abuse {DEL . DEL} {ADD ; and the director of policy in the governor's office. The governor shall designate one of the members of the cabinet to be chairperson. ADD}

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
