It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. Chapter 17-19 of the General Laws entitled "Conduct of Election and Voting Machines and Supplies" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

{ADD 17-19-23.2. Compensation of election officials. -- ADD} {ADD Cities and towns are hereby authorized to compensate moderators, clerks, inspectors, supervisors and any other election official at a daily rate in excess of any statutory allowable amount. Any excess shall be the responsibility of the authorizing city or town. ADD}

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
