H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N
COMMEMORATING SEPTEMBER 21ST THROUGH SEPTEMBER 27TH, 2025, AS "NATIONAL SURGICAL TECHNOLOGISTS WEEK" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, National Surgical Technologists Week is celebrated annually during the
third week of September, in honor of the essential role that surgical technologists play in ensuring
patient safety and supporting surgeons during surgeries; and
     WHEREAS, The Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) is a national, nonprofit
organization representing over 80,000 surgical technologists across the country who hold the
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential. These professionals are vital members of the
healthcare team, serving as the surgeon's co-pilot and ensuring the operating room runs smoothly;
and
     WHEREAS, Surgical technologists provide indispensable support during surgeries by
preparing instruments and supplies, maintaining the sterile field, and ensuring that every member
of the surgical team adheres to aseptic and sterile techniques. Their vigilance and expertise are
crucial to the safety and success of every surgical procedure; and
     WHEREAS, National Surgical Technologists Week offers an opportunity to recognize
and celebrate these dedicated professionals for their commitment to patient safety and their
contributions to the healthcare system; and
     WHEREAS, The tireless work of surgical technologists allows surgeries to be conducted
efficiently and safely, which is especially critical in the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare.
They are a vital part of surgical teams in hospitals and healthcare facilities across Rhode Island
and the nation; and
     WHEREAS, Surgical technologists embody the highest standards of professionalism and
skill, working diligently to keep patients safe and ensuring that surgical procedures are performed
in the most optimal conditions; now, therefore be it
     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby
commemorates September 21st through September 27th, 2025, as "National Surgical
Technologists Week" in recognition of the important role surgical technologists play in
healthcare, and urges all citizens of the state to join in expressing appreciation for their hard work
and dedication to patient care; and be it further
     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Association of Surgical Technologists and
the Rhode Island Department of Health.
