| EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY |

| WHEREAS, The LGBTQIA+ community is an integral part of Rhode Island’s |
| population; and |
| WHEREAS, The LGBTQIA+ community has fought relentlessly for inclusion and |
| equality, yet LGBTQIA+ people still experience harassment and discrimination based on their |
| sexual orientation and gender identity locally, nationally and internationally; and |
| WHEREAS, The State of Rhode Island, which was founded on the principle of individual |
| freedom, celebrates the diversity of its people and their right to live out loud, free of |
| discrimination, fear, and prejudice; and |
| WHEREAS, The State of Rhode Island remains committed to protecting the civil rights |
| of the LGBTQIA+ community; and |
| WHEREAS, Transgender and Nonbinary Rhode Islanders are facing threats to their very |
| existence and this Rhode Island State Senate will continue to strengthen its commitment to |
| ensuring dignity and full access to public life; and |
| WHEREAS, LGBTQIA+ people, people of color, and particularly trans women of color, |
| face greater disparities in the areas of health, housing, and criminal justice and are many times |
| more likely to be the victims of fatal violence; and |
| WHEREAS, Every human being has the right to love freely and live their lives openly as |
| who they are; now, therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby proclaims its solidarity |
| with and expresses its support for Rhode Island’s LGBTQIA + community; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
| transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Rhode Island, the |
| Honorable Daniel McKee. |
