H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N |
RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT (DEM) TO PERFORM WATER QUALITY AND RESILIENCE ASSESSMENTS AT STATE PARKS |

WHEREAS, Water quality and resilience assessments at State Parks affected by impaired |
waters is necessary for the protection and restoration of the quality of water resources in the State |
of Rhode Island; now, therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
respectfully requests the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) to assess the |
potential impacts and vulnerability of impervious surface areas at State Parks on waterbodies |
listed as impaired under the Clean Water Act, Section 303(d), where the impervious surface area |
is greater than 10,000 square feet and located within 500 feet of the impaired waterbody; and be it |
further |
RESOLVED, That this House hereby requests that the assessments include, at a |
minimum, Fort Adams State Park, Goddard State Park, Lincoln Woods and Colt State Park; and |
be it further |
RESOLVED, That this House hereby further requests that DEM prepares a report that |
includes plans and cost estimates for addressing stormwater, resilience and sea level rise at these |
four parks and any others that the Department may elect to include on the basis of similar needs |
to the House of Representatives on or before March 31, 2023; and be it further |
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Terrence Gray, Director of the Department of |
Environmental Management. |
