PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER 1ST THROUGH SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2021 TO BE "OVARIAN CANCER AWARENESS WEEK" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND |

WHEREAS, Ovarian Cancer Awareness Week is an opportunity to underscore our |
commitment to fighting ovarian cancer and to finding a cure for this deadly disease; and |
WHEREAS, Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer and the fifth leading |
cause of cancer deaths in Rhode Island; and |
WHEREAS, Seventy or more new cases are likely to be diagnosed in Rhode Island in |
2021; and |
WHEREAS, All people born with ovaries are at risk for ovarian cancer; and |
WHEREAS, Currently, there is no simple and reliable way to test for ovarian cancer |
without symptoms; and |
WHEREAS, Advocacy, increased awareness, and genetic testing and counseling can |
result in a meaningful reduction in the incidence of ovarian cancer; and |
WHEREAS, Members of the Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode Island, the Rhode |
Island Ovarian Cancer Alliance and the Program in Women's Oncology at Women & Infants |
Hospital, the Hospital Association of Rhode Island, and the Rhode Island Department of Health's |
Comprehensive Cancer Control Program are working collaboratively to reduce the burden of |
ovarian cancer in Rhode Island; now, therefore be it |
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby proclaims September |
1st through September 7th, 2021, to be "Ovarian Cancer Awareness Week", encourages all the |
State's residents to learn more about the prevention and early detection of ovarian cancer; and be |

RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby recognizes the dedicated medical professionals and |
researchers whose tireless efforts help provide a brighter and healthier future for women; and be |
it further |
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to The Partnership to Reduce Cancer in Rhode |
Island, the Rhode Island Ovarian Cancer Alliance, the Program in Women's Oncology at Women |
& Infants Hospital, the Hospital Association of Rhode Island, and the Rhode Island Department |
of Health's Comprehensive Cancer Control Program. |
