H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

JOYOUSLY CELEBRATING THE 100TH BIRTHDAY OF MARY V. GOES

WHEREAS, Mary V. Goes was born ten decades ago on January 29, 1920. The "Roaring

Twenties" were an age of dramatic social and political change in our country. Women were

finally given the right to vote and a nationwide constitutional ban on the production, importation,

transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages began; and

WHEREAS, Mary Nobrega was born, raised, and spent most of her life in the City of

Central Falls. As a young woman, she met and married Manuel Goes, to whom she was married

for fifty-two wonderful years, until his passing; and

WHEREAS, Mary was blessed with four children, Anthony, Bella-Marie, Mario, and

Joseph, and delighted to become a grandmother with the birth of her beloved grandson, Anthony,

and ultimately, her great-granddaughter, Lillian Claire; and

WHEREAS, For more than thirty years, Mrs. Goes worked in a family-owned laundry

business but her true passion and fulfilment always came from making a warm and welcoming

home for her family and raising her children; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Mrs. Goes resides at the Grandview Center, a nursing facility in

the Town of Cumberland; and

WHEREAS, Mary Goes' wealth of knowledge, amazing grace, and gentle spirit has

enriched the lives of those around her and we are honored to join in the joyous celebration of her

100th Birthday; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby joins the family and friends of Mary V. Goes in wishing her a very

happy 100th Birthday. We moreover wish her good health, peace of mind, and overwhelming

happiness for many years to come; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Mary V. Goes.
