Senate and the Rhode Island House of Representatives and served as Speaker in 1889. Mr. Utter |

p.m. Eastern Standard Time and the news was announced from the White House at 2:22 p.m. |
Word of the attack came to The Westerly Sun newsroom when Katherine Utter, the wife of then- |
editor and publisher Ben Utter, heard about the event on the radio and immediately called the |
newsroom. City Editor C. Starr Baker then called the Associated Press to gather as much |
information as he could and composed the headline that announced the attack, the first such |
newspaper headline in the United States, thereby making history for The Westerly Sun and the |
State of Rhode Island; and |
WHEREAS, Throughout its distinguished 125 year history, The Westerly Sun has |
