H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING THE 175TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF CLASSICAL HIGH SCHOOL

WHEREAS, Since its founding on March 20, 1843, Classical High School has compiled

a one hundred seventy-five year tradition of academic rigor, coupled with an unwavering

commitment to instilling in its pupils all of the traits essential to the development of character,

citizenship and scholarship; and

WHEREAS, Classical is an academically stimulating college preparatory examination

school that strives to affect and endow future leaders of our local and the global communities

with the essential knowledge and resilience to build a better tomorrow; and

WHEREAS, Serving a diverse community of students, Classical High School "honors the

dignity of all through high expectations, humility and grace"; and

WHEREAS, As one of the country's top high schools, Classical integrates "a rich and

challenging program of study in the arts, sciences, languages and humanities," as well as a wide

variety of extracurricular activities; and

WHEREAS, The accomplishments and strides signified by the award of a 2017 "Blue

Ribbon Exemplary High Performing School" designation by the United States Department of

Education is a clear indication of the positive impact Classical High School is having on the

educational experience of Rhode Island's young people, and will be felt for many years to come;

now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby proudly recognizes the 175th Anniversary of the founding of

Classical High School and moreover thanks the Administration and Staff for their

uncompromising dedication to excellence in education, and their devotion to the well-being of

generations of young people; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Scott D. Barr, Principal of Classical High

School.
