| H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N |
| DECLARING MARCH 30, 2016, TO BE "JROTC DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND |

| WHEREAS, Six high schools in Rhode Island currently have JROTC programs: |
| Coventry High School, with the 81st AFJROTC Unit, Cranston High School East, with the |
| Thunderbolt Battalion, Hope High School, with the Blue Wave Battalion, Rogers High School, |
| with the Viking Battalion, William E. Tolman High School, with the William E. Tolman High |
| School JROTC, and Woonsocket High School, with the Woonsocket JROTC Program; and |
| WHEREAS, The JROTC program is dedicated to furthering the mental, physical, and |
| emotional well-being of its Cadets. Its primary objective is to encourage young people to learn |
| how to think critically, to become better citizens of the world, to be problem solvers within their |
| schools and community, and to become future leaders; and |
| WHEREAS, The JROTC program teaches Cadets how to display the theory, principles |
| and practice of leadership on a daily basis. It teaches them how to motivate others, how to plan, |
| supervise, evaluate and manage their daily affairs, and how to effectively communicate with |
| others both verbally and with the written word. Additionally, the JROTC program teaches Cadets |
| to treat others and themselves with respect and to take responsibility for their actions; and |
| WHEREAS, The JROTC program also teaches Cadets about the vital role the United |
| States military has played in the long history of our great nation, and about the rights and |
| responsibilities of American citizens and how these rights and responsibilities relate to events in |
| United States history; now, therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
| Providence Plantations hereby declares March 30, 2016, to be "JROTC Day" in the State of |
| Rhode Island; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to send |
| duly certified copies of this resolution to Coventry High School, Cranston High School East, |
| Hope High School, Rogers High School, William E. Tolman High School, and Woonsocket High |
| School. |
