| RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING GOVERNOR GINA RAIMONDO TO DECLARE THE MONTH OF JUNE TO BE "IMMIGRANT HERITAGE MONTH" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND |

| WHEREAS, Generations of immigrants from every corner of the globe have built our |
| country's economy and created the unique character of our nation; and |
| WHEREAS, Immigrants continue to grow businesses, innovate, strengthen our economy, |
| and create jobs in Rhode Island; and |
| WHEREAS, Immigrants have provided the United States and Rhode Island with unique |
| social and cultural influences, fundamentally enriching the extraordinary character of each; and |
| WHEREAS, Immigrants have been tireless leaders not only in securing their own rights |
| and access to equal opportunity, but have also campaigned to create a fairer and more just society |
| for all Americans; and |
| WHEREAS, Despite these countless contributions, the role of immigrants in building and |
| enriching our nation has frequently been overlooked and undervalued throughout our history, and |
| continues to the present day; and |
| WHEREAS, Rhode Island, since its founding by Roger Williams, has always been a |
| place that believes in individual freedom and of the power of new immigrants to add much |
| needed energy and vitality to our state and nation; and |
| WHEREAS, Immigrants to Rhode Island currently speak more than 60 languages and |
| represent more than 60 countries. Rhode Island has immigrants from a diverse array of countries |
| including Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Germany, China, Cambodia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, |
| Guatemala, Colombia and many others nations; now, therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
| hereby respectfully requests that Governor Gina Raimondo declares the Month of June to be |
| "Immigrant Heritage Month" in the State of Rhode Island; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
| transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Honorable Governor of Rhode Island, Gina |
| Raimondo, the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation, the White House Intergovernmental |
| Office, and the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators. |
