| RESPECTFULLY URGING THE UNITED STATES SENATE TO SUPPORT PASSAGE OF THE MARKETPLACE FAIRNESS ACT OF 2015 |

| WHEREAS, On March 10, 2015, the United States Senate introduced legislation "to |
| restore the States' sovereign rights to enforce State and local sales and use tax laws, and for other |
| purposes," also known as the "Marketplace Fairness Act of 2015"; and |
| WHEREAS, Passage of the Act, S. 698, is an important component in our state's efforts |
| to end an unfair competitive edge that online and remote sellers have enjoyed over "main street |
| business" and will help to close a loophole in Rhode Island's ability to collect and remit all sales |
| taxes duly owed the state; and |
| WHEREAS, Rhode Island's small businesses are the engine that drive our state's |
| economy and passage of The Marketplace Fairness Act of 2015 would help to "level the playing |
| field" so our businesses may flourish; now, therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
| hereby respectfully urges the United States Senate to support the passage of the Marketplace |
| Fairness Act of 2015; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
| transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Honorable Jack Reed, United States |
| Senator, and the Honorable Sheldon Whitehouse, United States Senator. |
