| HOUSE RESOLUTION DECLARING APRIL OF 2015 TO BE THE "MONTH OF THE MILITARY CHILD" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND |

| WHEREAS, The Month of April, 2015, will be celebrated across the country as the |
| "Month of the Military Child" by the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). Every |
| day, military families across the nation make numerous sacrifices to support the men and women |
| in our armed forces, the people who we depend on to defend and preserve the freedoms and |
| liberties that have made our nation the most free nation on earth; and |
| WHEREAS, On a regular basis, military families move around the nation and the globe, |
| following their military serving spouses and parents. Military children change schools frequently |
| and this can be a difficult and stressful period for both the children and their parents. The average |
| military family faces two moves during a child’s high school years, and on average these children |
| will attend six to nine different schools from kindergarten through the twelfth grade; and |
| WHEREAS, During the month of April, there will be numerous special activities |
| celebrating the Month of the Military Child. PURPLE UP! Day will be celebrated by the DoDEA |
| on April 15, 2015, where everyone will be encouraged to wear purple to celebrate military |
| families. Other activities in April will include Patches of Honor, where kids will be invited to |
| submit their own design of a Patch of Honor, saluting military children at sporting events, hosting |
| school assemblies in honor of military children, and other assorted special events that focus on |
| celebrating and honoring military families; now, therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
| Providence Plantations hereby declares April, 2015, to be the "Month of the Military Child" in |
| our state; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
| transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Rosemarie K. Kraeger, Superintendent |
| Commission Vice-Chairman, MIC Commissioner - Rhode Island. |
