WHEREAS, In Rhode Island, more than 3,700 individuals have
developmental disabilities; and
WHEREAS, There are over 15,000 stakeholders who provide a range of
services and support systems for those with developmental disabilities in our
state; and
WHEREAS, For more than thirty years,
Rhode Island has been a leader in providing and advancing services for the developmentally
disabled community; and
WHEREAS, Individuals with developmental disabilities strive to be
contributing members of their community, including attaining employment; and
WHEREAS, The establishment of March 27, 2014 as Developmental
Disabilities Awareness Day will promote the ongoing endeavor to educate the
citizens of this state about the myriad contributions made by those with
developmental disabilities; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence Plantations hereby proclaims March 27, 2014, as "Developmental
Disabilities Awareness Day" in our state. We furthermore encourage all our
state's residents to join in recognizing the importance of this day; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be
and hereby is authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this
resolution to Donna Martin, Executive Director of CPN-RI.
