CELEBRATING
"NATIONAL SALVATION ARMY WEEK" ON MAY 13TH THROUGH
MAY 19TH IN THE
STATE OF

WHEREAS, In 1856, William Booth began preaching hope and salvation to
a
congregation that was composed of the most needy, neglected, and
downtrodden in the
of
guidance; and
WHEREAS, Since its humble beginnings in
attracted scores of followers who are dedicated to providing
spiritual guidance and humanitarian
relief to people throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, In 1879, Lieutenant Eliza Shirley held the first meeting of
The Salvation
Army in
recognized and declared by President Dwight Eisenhower; and
WHEREAS, Currently, the Salvation Army is a world-wide organization
that is meeting
human needs, without discrimination, by utilizing its
foundation and mission of “Doing the Most
Good”; and
WHEREAS, Through countless acts of service, provided by more than
3,411,613
volunteers, 400,055 members, and more than 200,000 additional
personnel, the Salvation Army,
as well as those who support its mission through contributions,
have actively assisted more than
29,418,530 people through more than 7,821 Centers of
Operation and more than 400,055
members; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of
Providence Plantations
hereby celebrates “National Salvation Army Week” on May 13th through
May 19th. We
furthermore implore community members to express their appreciation for the
Salvation Army’s good works
and to follow their example of serving a cause greater than
themselves during this week and throughout the year; and be it
further
RESOLVED,
The Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized
and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Major
David Champlin, Divisional Commander
