S O L U T I O N
PROCLAIMING THE
WEEK OF JUNE 20TH - 26TH TO BE "AMATEUR RADIO WEEK" IN THE STATE OF

WHEREAS, The American
Radio Relay League (ARRL) is the leading organization for
Amateur Radio in the
WHEREAS, Amateur Radio
or “ham radio” operators will be celebrating over a century
of “the miracle of human voice broadcast over the
airwaves”; and
WHEREAS, Amateur Radio
provides a bridge between peoples, societies, and countries
by creating friendships and through the sharing of
ideas; and
WHEREAS, There are more than 2.5 million Amateur Radio operators
worldwide, with
more than 650,000 in the
WHEREAS, Amateur Radio
operators have provided countless hours of community
service without compensation; and
WHEREAS, During June of
this year, as they have for decades,
operators will join amateur operators from across the
24-hour emergency encampment exercise, known as Field
Day, demonstrating their skills and
readiness to provide emergency communications; and
WHEREAS, Over the past decade, Amateur Radio operators have provided
critical
emergency communications when other systems failed during the
devastating events of Hurricane
Katrina and, more recently, during the catastrophes in
RESOLVED, That this
Senate of the State of
hereby proclaims the week of June 20th - 26th to be “Amateur
Radio Week.” We furthermore
thank our local “hams” for their diligence and dedication
to our state’s communication
preparedness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the
Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and
directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Bob Beaudet, W1YRC, ARRL Section
