CELEBRATING
"STRONGER

WHEREAS, May 11th of
2011 has been chosen as a day for the people of the City of
WHEREAS, The City of
Providence is not only our state’s capital, but also the most
populous and one of the first cities established in
WHEREAS, Founded in 1636
by Roger Williams, the City of
country’s first industrialized cities and currently has the
37th largest metropolitan population in
the country; and
WHEREAS, The city’s culture blends an exciting and eclectic mix of
old and new,
architecturally, economically, and ethnically. It is home to
eight hospitals, seven institutions of
higher learning, and an increasing number of software and
communications firms, and biotech
startups; and
WHEREAS, Organizers of
the “Stronger Providence Day” events believe that
WHEREAS, Highlights of
the day’s events will include showcases illustrating the city’s
cultural vitality with various restaurant offerings,
informative and educational programs, and
performances from a panoply of displays by local artisans and
entertainment groups; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable
Angel Taveras, Mayor of the City of
on public and private sector workers, city residents,
legislators, City Council members, small and
large business owners, and non-profit sector leaders to
join together to set
financial footing and ensure the city’s continued success; now,
therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of
Providence Plantations
hereby joins the residents of the City of
throughout Rhode Island in celebrating “Stronger Providence Day”
on May 11th of 2011; and be
it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to The
Honorable Angel Taveras, Mayor of the
