O L U T I O N
DECLARING THE
WEEK OF MAY 2ND TO MAY 6TH OF 2011 TO BE "TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK"
IN

WHEREAS, Few things matter more in the development of a young person
than the vital
contributions provided by talented and dedicated teachers who work
tirelessly to open children’s
minds to the magic of ideas, knowledge, and dreams; and
WHEREAS, Every day, teachers in
inspire young children to be curious about the world around
them, to explore ways to better
understand their environment, and to develop the critical
thinking skills necessary for their
success as adults; and
WHEREAS,
school teachers, and they consistently demonstrate their
professional competence and
commitment to their students through their willingness to give of
their time, energy, talents, and
ideas to ensure that
God-given potential; and
WHEREAS, Teachers spend
countless hours preparing lessons, evaluating progress,
counseling and coaching students, consulting with parents, and
performing community service.
Teachers fill many vital roles, such as listeners,
role models, explorers, motivators, and mentors;
and
WHEREAS, Teachers keep
democracy alive and vibrant by laying the foundation for
good citizenship. They display daily the value of public
service. Their hard work and efforts are
directly responsible for creating the leaders of tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, Teachers have
earned, and truly deserve, the gratitude and respect of
students, parents, and community members throughout the state.
They touch the lives of all of our
young children and are the crucial conduit by which parents
can see the growth, maturity, and
development of their loved ones; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of
Providence Plantations
hereby declares the week of May 2nd to May 6th to be “Teacher
Appreciation
Week” in
tireless devotion in educating and developing our children;
and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Francis
J. Flynn, President of the
Federation of Teachers and
Health Professionals, and
Island
National Education Association.
