RECOGNIZING
APRIL 29, 2011, AS THE MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION'S "WORLD WISH DAY"

WHEREAS, "World
Wish Day" is the annual campaign to grant more wishes to children
around the world suffering from life-threatening medical
conditions, and was launched world
wide in 2010, the 30th anniversary of the founding of the
Make-A-Wish Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Every 25
minutes, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wish of a child
with a life-threatening medical condition, accounting for
more than 20,000 wishes every year,
with over 250,000 wishes granted since 1980; and
WHEREAS, Each year, over 30,000 volunteers generously give their
time, talents, and
energy to fulfill the Make-A-Wish mission around the globe,
to grant the wishes of children with
critical medical conditions to enrich the human experience
with hope, strength, and joy; and
WHEREAS, The Make-A-Wish
Foundation International and the Make-A-Wish
Foundation of
corporations, foundations and through fundraising events. Each
chapter supports its wish children
independently; and
WHEREAS, The Make-A-Wish
Foundation of Massachusetts and
granting wishes for children with life-threatening medical
conditions and enriching the human
experience with hope, strength, and joy since granting its first
wish in
WHEREAS, Over 500
Massachusetts children and 80
diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions every year;
and
WHEREAS, The State of
applauds the efforts of the Make-A-Wish volunteers who bring
great joy to the difficult struggle
that these children and their families courageously face;
now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That the Senate of the State of
hereby recognizes April 29, 2011, as “World Wish Day,”
celebrates the annual campaign to
inspire people from all over the world to share the power of
a wish, and recognizes the selfless
volunteers that help to make these wishes happen; and be it
further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Paula Montgomery,
Regional Director, Rhode
Island
office of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
