CELEBRATING THE
"FESTIVAL OF FRANCOPHONIE" FROM MARCH 10TH THROUGH
MARCH 31ST IN
THE STATE OF

WHEREAS, The “Festival
of Francophonie” is a celebration of the diversity of
the
French-speaking world. This day is dedicated to the French language
which unifies people on five
continents; and
WHEREAS, This year’s ceremonies will include the raising of the
Francophone Flag
over the State Capitol on March 22nd, an event that is sponsored
by the League of French-
speaking Organizations of Rhode Island and
WHEREAS, In addition,
festivities include a speaking program, a musical portion
performed by the Student-Choir of the French-American School of
Rhode Island, recitals of
French poetry by students from
students at the Beacon Charter High School of Woonsocket; and
WHEREAS, A total of 220
million people across the world speak French as either their
first or second language; and
WHEREAS,
French language, and this multitude of linguistic
diversity in our state has served to strengthen us
culturally, economically, and intellectually; now, therefore be
it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of
Providence Plantations
hereby joins the League of French-speaking Organizations of Rhode
Island and
celebrating the “Festival of Francophonie”;
and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the League
of French-speaking Organizations
of
