S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

DECLARING MARCH 19, 2011, AS "NORTH KINGSTOWN SPIRIT DAY"

     WHEREAS, If you thought "spirit days" were over once you threw your cap into the air

on graduation day, you’re (fortunately) wrong. North Kingstown’s 11th Annual Spirit Day,

celebrating all things North Kingstown, will take place March 19 at North Kingstown High

School; and

     WHEREAS, Spirit Day is actually called the S.P.I.R.I.T. of the Community, and brings

together more than 33 organizations in North Kingstown. The entire event strives to showcase the

artistic talents of North Kingstown citizens through performance and participation, and enhance

wellness through education, activities, and health screening; and

     WHEREAS, North Kingstown Spirit Day 2011 involves every member of every family.

From puppet shows and balloon animals for the kids, to gardening tips and environmental

programs for grown ups, the day promises to be filled with excitement; and

     WHEREAS, North Kingstown residents will also take the time to demonstrate their

commitment to improving their world. Attendees will collect food for the North Kingstown food

pantry and donate fabric to Little Dresses for Africa; and

     WHEREAS, Last year, Spirit Day attracted nearly 1,000 locals to North Kingstown High School

North Kingstown High School. The Spirit Day Committee hopes to top that number this year; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby proclaims Saturday, March 19, 2011, as "North Kingstown Spirit Day" in the State of

Rhode Island, and encourages all citizens of the State to join in the celebrations; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the North Kingstown Town Hall.
