S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING JANUARY 14TH OF 2011 AS "WESTERLY LIONS CLUB DAY" IN

WESTERLY, RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, The Westerly Lions Club was founded on May 26th of 1926 and is the oldest

community service club in Westerly.  It is one of Rhode Island’s local chapters of the Lions Club

International, which was founded in 1917; and  

     WHEREAS, With 44,500 clubs worldwide, chapters of the Lions Club International have

been established in 201 countries and have 1.3 million members; and 

     WHEREAS, The Westerly Lions Club currently has a membership of 121 dedicated men

and women, whose longstanding mission is to help those individuals who are visually impaired. 

The Westerly organization also provides humanitarian and charitable service to the community,

the state, and to various world causes; and

     WHEREAS, For the consistent and selfless expenditure of time, talent, and energy for the

benefit of all Rhode Islanders, the Westerly Lions Club and Lions Club International have earned

our unqualified admiration and respect; now, therefore be it   

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby proclaims January 14th to be “Westerly Lions Club Day” in Westerly, Rhode Island.  We

furthermore celebrate and applaud the myriad of altruistic endeavors and accomplishments

achieved by the membership of this fine organization; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to David Urso, President of the Westerly Lions

Club.
