THANKING SENATOR
CHARLES J. LEVESQUE FOR HIS SIX YEARS OF
DISTINGUISHED
SERVICE TO THE RHODE ISLAND SENATE AND SIXTEEN YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO
THE RHODE ISLAND GENERAL ASSEMBLY

WHEREAS, Senator
Levesque is a graduate of
of
WHEREAS, Senator
Levesque began his distinguished political career in 1988, when he
was elected to the Portsmouth Town Council, where he
served for four years; and
WHEREAS, Senator
Levesque was first elected to the Rhode Island General Assembly in
1992, when he was elected to serve in the Rhode Island
House of Representatives, where he
served for ten years. In 2004, Senator Levesque was elected
to serve in the Rhode Island Senate.
He currently represents
Judiciary, and is a member of the Senate Committees on
Government Oversight and Health &
Human Services; and
WHEREAS, Senator
Levesque has stood out in the legislature as an eloquent and
passionate defender of our civil liberties and of the poor,
frail, and disenfranchised. He has fought
tirelessly to reduce the cost of prescription drugs, to reduce
hospital errors, to improve the quality
of care our seniors receive in long-term care and
assisted-living facilities, and to create an Elder
Justice Division within the Rhode Island Attorney
General’s Office to better protect our seniors
and prosecute those who would steal from, and physically
harm senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, Senator
Levesque has also been a leader in the fight against predatory
lending and in finding ways to help those struggling to pay
their mortgages in these hard
economic times. He has fought to create a moratorium on
foreclosures in order to better
investigate the lending procedures that helped to create this
crisis, and to help homeowners to
renegotiate their mortgages with banks and lenders; and
WHEREAS, Senator
Levesque’s absence at Judiciary meetings will result in much
shorter hearings, but his presence will be dearly missed by
Senators Perry and Goodwin. Senator
Levesque’s vast knowledge of the sport of basketball
will also be sorely missed and his absence
will create a void in the all-important roundtable sports
talk discussions with Senators Metts and
Jabour; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of
hereby thanks Senator Charles J. Levesque for his many years
of devoted service to the Rhode
Island
Senate, the Rhode Island General Assembly, and to the citizens of
miss his good humor and passion for social justice and
improving the lives of those who are weak
and in need. We wish Senator Levesque continued success
in all his future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Senator
Charles J. Levesque.
