PROCLAIMING MAY
12, 2010, AS "DONATED DENTAL SERVICES DAY" IN THE STATE OF

WHEREAS, In 1989, member dentists of the Rhode Island Dental
Association
established the Rhode Island Foundation for Dentistry for the Handicapped
and the Donated
Dental Services (DDS) Program; and
WHEREAS, In the Donated
Dental Services Program, dentists and dental laboratories
donate comprehensive treatment for elderly and disabled persons,
people who are often
overlooked and at-risk and who cannot afford dental care; and
WHEREAS, Nearly 200
dentists and 56 dental labs volunteer for the DDS Program, and
they have treated over 2,300 disabled and elderly patients
with seriously neglected dental
problems throughout
WHEREAS, Since 1989,
of free dental care in their private dental offices
through the Donated Dental Services Program;
now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of
hereby congratulates and thanks the Rhode Island Dental
Association volunteer dentists and the
dental laboratories who have donated their time, expertise,
and private dental office treatment for
the benefit of these vulnerable people who would not
otherwise receive dental treatment; and be it
further
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of
hereby proclaims May 12, 2010, as “Donated Dental Services
Day” in
recognizes the commitment and effort by the dentists and labs to
assist our neediest citizens; and
be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Rhode
Island Dental Association and to the
