HONORING
THE STATE

WHEREAS, The YMCA is a
charitable, voluntary, community-based organization
dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, youth,
adults, and families and to
strengthening communities through programs that build the spirit,
mind, and body; and
WHEREAS, Known for its comprehensive health and fitness activities,
the YMCA
excels in educating individuals on how to lead healthier
lives. In addition, the YMCA promotes
the teaching and role modeling of four key character
values: caring, honesty, respect, and
responsibility; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA is a
leading provider of licensed child-care in the State of
The YMCA has over 143,000 members, 44,500 under the
age of 18, engaged in activities and
services designed to build healthier spirits, minds, and
bodies. The YMCA annually provides
$5,700,000 of charitable financial assistance and free
and subsidized programs to individuals and
groups to ensure that all can participate in YMCA programs
and services, regardless of their
ability to pay. YMCAs bring together the young and old, men
and women, and people of all faiths
and incomes. They seek to provide individuals with
opportunities for personal development and
to foster their sense of responsibility to one another
and to the local, national, and world
community; and
WHEREAS, All six Rhode Island YMCA organizations have united to form
an alliance.
They are promoting the growth of the Y movement in
coordinating policy advocacy, and striving for excellence in
everything that they do; and
WHEREAS, On April 17,
2010, The State Alliance of Rhode Island YMCAs will
celebrate their annual Healthy Kids Day®, a free, interactive
special event that employs fun,
engaging, and creative activities to encourage children and
their families to adopt behaviors that
support healthy lifestyles; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of
hereby recognizes The State Alliance of Rhode Island YMCAs
as a leading partner in the state’s
quest to build stronger children, families, and
communities. We furthermore congratulate The
State Alliance of Rhode
Island YMCAs for its tireless efforts to fulfill the mission to put
Christian principles into
practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for
all; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Chairman
of The State Alliance of Rhode
Island
YMCAs.
