PROCLAIMING THE
WEEK OF APRIL 18-24, 2010, AS THE "GENERAL FEDERATION OF WOMEN'S CLUBS -
IN THE STATE OF

WHEREAS, Founded in April of 1890 and chartered by the United States Congress in
1901, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) is one of the oldest nonpartisan,
nondenominational women’s volunteer service organizations in the world; and
WHEREAS, The GFWC is dedicated to “community improvement by enhancing the lives
of others through volunteer service”; and
WHEREAS, The organization has enriched and expanded the voice and role of women on
almost every issue of historic importance. Whether in the arts and conservation, or education and
international affairs, the GFWC has helped women to attain a distinguished record of community
commitment, contributions, and service; and
WHEREAS, Internationally, GFWC members in past years have contributed nearly $32
million and have volunteered over 8.4 million hours through more than 230,000 club projects to
produce immense improvements in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Currently,

betterment and enrichment of our
RESOLVED, That this Senate of
the State of
hereby proclaims the week of April 18-24, 2010, to be “General Federation of Women's Clubs,
Cranston Community Woman's Club Volunteers in Action Week”; and be it further
RESOLVED, That this Senate recognizes and thanks the GFWC for more than a century
of commitment to encouraging women “to improve their skills, expand their rights, and apply
their abilities and special sensitivity to the problems of their communities and nations”; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the General Federation of Women’s Clubs -
