S O L U T I O N
CELEBRATING THE
CENTENNIAL OF THE HARRISVILLE FIRE DISTRICT

WHEREAS, The Harrisville
Fire District was established through an Act of
Incorporation by the Rhode Island General Assembly on
April 22, 1910; and
WHEREAS, The District
established the Harrisville Hose Company on February 15,
1912, in order to provide fire protection to the
citizens of Harrisville; and
WHEREAS, The District
has provided street lighting in the
arrangement with the Pascoag Fire District since 1914; and
WHEREAS, The District
has provided potable water for its residents since 1918 by
contract with the Pascoag Water Company, and after purchasing
the Pascoag Water Company in
1936, through its own Harrisville Water Department; and
WHEREAS, The Fire
District has provide mutual aid to other communities for fire
protection since 1926; and
WHEREAS, The Harrisville
Fire District, through its dedicated employees and
volunteers, has provided a century of service to the residents
of the District and the Town of
Burrillville; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of
hereby celebrates the Centennial of the Harrisville Fire
District; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Donald C.
Mehrtens, Chairman, Harrisville
Fire
District Operating Committee.
