HONORING
VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS KEITH
AND MATTHEW
MCDERMOTT

WHEREAS, Many people go
through their life without any personal contact with a
potential life or death situation, without a defining moment
that turns an ordinary person into a
hero. Members of
and
WHEREAS, The townspeople of
witnessed, benefited, and enjoyed peace of mind because Keith
Maine and Matthew McDermott
have been on duty as volunteer firefighters with South
Kingstown Forest Fire Station 3 of the
Union Fire District in
WHEREAS, In the early morning hours of February 23, 2009,
Firefighters Maine and
McDermott were returning from a concert at the
smoke coming from the second floor of
WHEREAS,
Firefighters Maine and McDermott immediately called 911 and then
pounded on the back walls of the building in order to alert
the occupants in the building. Three
residents jumped from a second floor window to escape flames
while the officers helped to break
their fall; and
WHEREAS, Devotion and
service to the community have been just a way of life for
these two gentlemen. They have consistently demonstrated
that no goal is too vast and no
amount of effort too great to put forth in service to their
fellow man. Their heroic actions are
eminently worthy of our acknowledgement and our gratitude; now,
therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of
hereby recognizes and applauds Volunteer Firefighters Keith Maine
and Matthew McDermott.
We wish them continued good
health, much happiness, and success in all their future endeavors;
and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized
and directed to
transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mr. Keith
Maine and Mr. Matthew McDermott.
