CELEBRATING
"GREEN DRINKS" AND THE

WHEREAS, Internationally, various groups of people in the
environmental field began
meeting monthly at informal sessions that became known as
“Green Drinks.” Now, diverse
groups of people from various cities and towns across
promote green issues; and
WHEREAS, On January 13th
of 2010, the
Island, will host a statewide gathering of Green
Drinkers in order to highlight the museum’s green
efforts and its commitment to becoming a better environmental
steward; and
WHEREAS, Located on
scenic Narragansett Bay, the
source of pride for Rhode Islanders and one of the nation’s
most important historic maritime
treasures; and
WHEREAS, Originally founded in 1971 to preserve and perpetuate the
unique
accomplishments of the Herreshoff
Manufacturing Company, the
now encompasses an impressive museum, the family
homestead, six former company buildings,
and large water frontage. In addition to a panoply of yachts, models, and artifacts, the museum
has ever-changing exhibits; holds programs, lecture
series, and various learning opportunities for
visitors; and is dedicated to promoting the community’s two-hundred
year history of fine boat
building; and
WHEREAS, In its efforts to improve and “green” its campus, the Herreshoff Marine
Museum implemented the Green Campus Initiative to
focus on its dedication to the utilization of
renewable energy and other green technologies. In addition, it
has committed to the construction
of a sustainably designed
Waterfront Education and
WHEREAS, Promoting
renewable energy and sustainable living is an admirable and
essential step in preserving our state’s resources for current
and future generations to enjoy; now
therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of
hereby joins “green drinkers” from across the
Museum’s
strides and accomplishments towards improving
furthermore offer our gratitude for its ongoing efforts to
preserve our state’s cultural heritage and
educate our citizenry; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Larry
Fisher, Executive Director,
