S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N
HONORING THE
PLUM BEACH GARDEN CLUB FOR ESTABLISHING A BLUE STAR BY-WAY MARKER AT THE
INTERSECTION OF ROUTE 1 AND WEST MAIN STREET IN NORTH KINGSTOWN, IN HONOR OF
THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE SERVED AND ARE CURRENTLY SERVING IN THE UNITED
STATES ARMED FORCES

WHEREAS, After four years of ambitious fundraising, the Plum Beach
Garden Club's
vision of landscaping and hardscaping
the three state-owned traffic islands at the "Grand
Highway" on Route 1 was completed in October. A
Blue Star By-Way Marker, a new Historic
Wickford sign entrance, and diversified indigenous plantings
that will provide seasonal changes
and color were completed at the intersection of Route 1
and
serving in the United States Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS,
shepherded this "Adopt A Spot" project through the
permitting applications at the Department of
Transportation and member Karen Barbera
designed the
WHEREAS, On Veterans
Day, November 11, 2009, the Town of
dignitaries, Veterans organizations, Blue Star and Gold Star
families, a Color Guard, and "
supporters will gather at a ceremony to dedicate the Blue Star
By-Way Marker.
Garden Club President Cathy Shippee
will conduct the ceremony and Betty Sue Reed will
organize this special program of tribute to our Armed Forces, past
and present; now, therefore be
it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of
hereby honors the Plum Beach Garden Club for establishing a
Blue Star By-Way Marker at the
intersection of Route 1 and
women who have served and are currently serving in the
United States Armed Forces; and be it
further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is
authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the
members of the Plum Beach Garden Club.
