AMENDING
THE JOINT RESOLUTION CREATING A PERMANENT LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION ON CHILD CARE
IN RHODE ISLAND

RESOLVED, That the
permanent legislative commission on child care in Rhode Island
created by resolution No. 217 passed by the
General Assembly at its January session, A.D. 1989,
and approved July 7, 1989 entitled "Joint
Resolution Creating A Permanent Legislative
Commission On Child Care In Rhode Island"
and as amended by resolution No. 219 passed by
the General Assembly at its January session,
A.D. 1991, and approved June 20, 1991 entitled
“Joint Resolution In Amendment Of The Joint
Resolution Creating A Permanent Legislative
Commission On Child Care In Rhode Island” and as
further amended by resolution No. 325
passed by the General Assembly at its January
session, A.D. 1998, and approved by the General
Assembly on June 27, 1998 entitled “Joint
Resolution Amending the Permanent Legislative
Commission on Child Care In Rhode Island” be and
the same are hereby amended as follows:
Establish staggered commission membership terms
of not more than three (3) years, with the
exception of legislative members, and effective
as of January 1, 2007; The completion of terms,
commencing in 2008, shall be staggered so that
not more than forty percent (40%) of the
membership terms shall be completed in any year;
Said commission shall consist of not more
than thirty-five (35) members; The members of
the commission may succeed themselves; The
commission may elect members to fill any
vacancies in the membership of the commission, with
the exception of legislative members; provided,
however, that the commission shall maintain a
fair balance of active members among the
following categories of designated members:
Providers/Provider Associations/Provider
Networks, Resource Organizations, Families/Youth
Representatives, Advocacy/Research
Organizations, Business Organizations, Funder
Organizations, and Government Agencies; Twelve
(12) members of the commission shall
constitute a quorum of the commission; and the
commission shall have the power to adopt such
bylaws and procedures as may be necessary to
effectuate its purposes.
