RECOGNIZING NORTH
AMERICAN OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH WEEK

WHEREAS,
May 6 through May 12, 2007 marks the Annual North American
Occupational
Safety and Health Week (NAOSH); and
WHEREAS,
The Greater Boston Chapter Ocean State Section of the American Society
of
Safety Engineers (ASSE) encourages its members to participate in NAOSH Week to
increase
awareness
on how to prevent injury and illness in the workplace; and
WHEREAS,
The ASSE was founded in 1911, and currently has 30,000 occupational
safety,
health and environmental professional members; and
WHEREAS,
Every day millions of people go to and return from work safely due to the
efforts
of occupational safety, health and environmental practitioners who integrate
safety into the
business
operation; and
WHEREAS,
The ASSE has long recognized the importance of decreasing workplace
injuries
and deaths, and that a safer workplace positively impacts employee productivity
and
satisfaction;
and
WHEREAS,
It is imperative that employers, employees and the general public be aware
of
the importance of preventing illness and injury in the workplace, and the
positive impact that
integrating
effective safety and health programs in the workplace has on the economy; now
therefore
be it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations
hereby
commends the Awareness Campaign to prevent workplace injuries being waged by
the
American
Society of Safety Engineers and further congratulates the society for the many
workplace
safety measures it is responsible for implementing that the citizens of Rhode
Island
enjoy
each day; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit
a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Greater Boston Chapter Ocean
State
Section
of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
