S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N
PROCLAIMING APRIL
22ND THROUGH THE 28TH OF 2007 AS
"THE WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD" IN THE STATE OF RHODE
ISLAND

WHEREAS,
The Rhode Island Senate and various local elementary schools and
organizations
are celebrating "The Week of the Young Child" on April 22nd through
the 28th of
2007;
and
WHEREAS,
This annual event, first established in 1971, is a celebration sponsored by
and
held in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young
Children in
order
to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families,
and to recognize
the
programs and services that meet those needs; and
WHEREAS,
These organizations and educational programs are working to improve early
learning
opportunities for children, birth through age eight, which are crucial to the
growth and
development
of young children, and to build a better future for all the residents of Rhode
Island;
and
WHEREAS,
This week provides an opportunity for all Rhode Islanders to recognize the
needs
of young children, and thank the parents, teachers, caregivers and other adults
who are
involved
in the education and care, and play important roles in the lives of these young
children;
and
WHEREAS,
The early years are a crucial time for their growth and development, and a
time
when we help children prepare to succeed in school and in life. All young
children in Rhode
Island
and across the country deserve access to high-quality early education and care;
now,
therefore
be it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations
hereby
recognizes and supports the people, programs and policies that are committed to
high-
quality
early childhood education as the right choice for all our children; and be it
further
RESOLVED,
That this Senate hereby proclaims April 22nd through the 28th of 2007 as
"The
Week of the Young Child" in the State of Rhode Island. We furthermore
encourage all
citizens
to acknowledge the needs of children, and to work together to make a good
investment in
early
childhood and build better futures for all children in our state; and be it
further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit
a duly certified copy of this resolution to the National Association for the
Education of
Young
Children.
