PROCLAIMING APRIL 25,
2007 TO BE "PUBLIC HIGHER EDUCATION DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS,
Public higher education in Rhode Island is a focal point of the educational,
economic
and social fabric and welfare of our state; and
WHEREAS,
The University of Rhode Island is recognized internationally for the scope
and
quality of its undergraduate programs, focused and competitive graduate
degrees, and the
breadth
and depth of its research initiatives; and
WHEREAS,
Rhode Island College, the oldest public institution of higher learning in the
state,
has earned a superb and well-deserved reputation for the excellence of its
liberal arts
program
and various programs in professional studies; and
WHEREAS,
The Community College of Rhode Island is the state's only public,
comprehensive
associate-degree granting institution, and provides the gateway of opportunity
for
all
Rhode Islanders who seek higher education; and
WHEREAS,
The Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education maintains a
seamless
articulation and transfer structure between these three excellent public
institutions of
higher
education; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations
hereby
proclaims April 25, 2007 to be "Public Higher Education Day" in the
State of Rhode
Island.
We furthermore urge all Rhode Island legislators to actively participate and
support the
Public
Higher Education Day by interacting with the students and faculty at the State
House
celebration
events on April 25, 2007; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit
a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island Board of Governors
for
Higher
Education.
