S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N
CREATING A SPECIAL
SENATE COMMISSION TO STUDY AND MAKE
RECOMMENDATIONS
RELATED TO THE PROBLEM OF CYBERTHREATS AND
CYBERBULLYING FROM AN
EDUCATOR'S PERSPECTIVE

RESOLVED,
That a special Senate commission be and the same is hereby created
consisting
of nine (9) members: one of whom shall be a member of the Senate, who shall
serve as
chairperson
of the study commission, to be appointed by the President of the Senate; one of
whom
shall be the Smithfield Chief of Police, or designee; one of whom shall be the
Superintendent
of Schools for North Smithfield, or designee; one of whom shall be the
Principal
of
Smithfield High School, or designee; one of whom shall be a teacher from the
North
Smithfield
School System, to be appointed by the President of the Senate; one of whom
shall be a
teacher
from the Smithfield School System, to be appointed by the President of the
Senate; one of
whom
shall be a teacher from a private high school in the State of Rhode Island, to
be appointed
by
the President of the Senate; one of whom shall be the program director of the
"Talk Works
Education
Program" who is currently working in conjunction with the Smithfield
School
Department,
or designee; and one of whom shall be a school social worker, to be appointed
by the
President
of the Senate.
The
purpose of said commission shall be to study and make recommendations to the
Senate
relating to the problem of cyberthreats and cyberbullying from an educator's
perspective.
Forthwith
upon passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at
the
call of the chairperson. Vacancies in said commission shall be filled in like
manner as the
original
appointment.
The
membership of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services.
All
departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advice and
information,
documentary
and otherwise, to said commission and its agents as is deemed necessary or
desirable
by the commission to facilitate the purposes of this resolution.
The
Joint Committee on Legislative Services is hereby authorized and directed to
provide
suitable
quarters for said commission unless said commission has secured suitable
quarters on its
own
and at no expense to the State of Rhode Island; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the
Senate on or before June 28, 2007 and said commission shall expire on August 30, 2007.
