H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N
PROCLAIMING SEPTEMBER
11, 2006 TO BE "POLICE OFFICERS' AND FIREFIGHTERS' APPRECIATION DAY"
IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS,
Most people go through their lives without any personal contact with a
potentially
life threatening situation, without experiencing that defining moment that
turns an
ordinary
person into a hero. Members of Rhode Island's police and fire departments face
and
triumph
over such challenges each and every day; and
WHEREAS,
Police Officers and Firefighters come to the aid of Rhode Islanders
whenever
duty calls and people are in need. These extraordinary men and women serve as
role
models
for our young people and protectors for our elderly. They are dedicated and
conscientious,
and
worthy of our acknowledgement and gratitude; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence
Plantations hereby proclaims September 11, 2006 to be "Police Officers'
and
Firefighters'
Appreciation Day" in support of the brave and valiant efforts of Rhode
Island's
police
officers and firefighters who provide crucial protection and caring assistance
to all the
citizens
of this state; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That this House urges all the citizens of Rhode Island to take a moment on
this
day to remember and honor all the dedicated men and women who have lost their
lives in the
line
of duty; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit
duly certified copies of this resolution to the International Association of
Fire Fighters,
the
Rhode Island State Association of Fire Fighters, the Rhode Island Police
Officers Emerald
Society,
the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association, and the Rhode Island State Lodge
Fraternal
Order
of Police.
