H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N
PROCLAIMING APRIL 6,
2006 TO BE "PUBLIC HIGHER EDUCATION DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS,
Public higher education in Rhode Island is at the heart of the educational,
economic
and social welfare of our state; and
WHEREAS,
The University of Rhode Island is internationally recognized for its high
quality
undergraduate programs, its competitive graduate degrees, and its sophisticated
research
initiatives;
and
WHEREAS,
Rhode Island College has earned a superb reputation for the excellence of
its
program in liberal arts and professional studies; and
WHEREAS,
The Community College of Rhode Island provides the gateway of
opportunity
for all Rhode Islanders who seek higher education; and
WHEREAS,
The Board of Governor for Higher Education maintains a seamless
articulation
and transfer structure between these three excellent institutions; now, therefore
be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence
Plantations hereby proclaims April 6, 2006 to be "Public Higher Education
Day" in
the
State of Rhode Island. We furthermore urge all Rhode Island legislators to
actively
participate
and support the Public Higher Education Day by interacting with the students
and
faculty
at the State House celebration events and performances on April 6, 2006; and be
it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit
a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island Board of Governors
for
Higher
Education.
