R E S O L U T I O N
PROCLAIMING THE WEEK
OF APRIL 1-8, 2006 TO BE
"ARCHITECTURE
WEEK" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS,
In 1857, thirteen architects assembled in New York to shape the
organization
that later became The American Institute of Architects (AIA); and
WHEREAS,
Today the Institute has 76,000 active and contributing members, and more
than
281,000 Americans are employed by architecture firms across the nation; and
WHEREAS,
Through their work, America's architects have historically expressed the
richness
of our heritage and the vitality of our national spirit. They have combined
advances in
building
technology with design innovation to give exciting new forms to our cities and
communities;
and
WHEREAS,
The architecture profession in Rhode Island, through the American Institute
of
Architects, has been especially vigilant in its stewardship over many of the
great architectural
and
historic treasures that proudly line the streets of our cities and towns. Their
efforts on behalf
of
building healthy, safe, livable, and sustainable communities have enriched the
lives of Rhode
Islanders
in every walk of life; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence
Plantations hereby proclaims the week of April 1-8, 2006 to be
"Architecture Week"
in
the State of Rhode Island, and we encourage all Rhode Islanders to observe this
week with
appropriate
activities and programs; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That this House hereby recognizes and values the significant contributions
Rhode
Island Architects have made to the skyline and majesty of our cities and towns.
We also
honor
and congratulate the American Institute of Architects for its guidance and its
innumerable
accomplishments
over the past 149 years, and look forward to celebrating its 150th Anniversary
in
2007;
and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit
a duly certified copy of this resolution to the American Institute of
Architects.
