H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N
PROCLAIMING THE MONTH
OF MARCH, 2006 AS "NATIONAL MIDDLE LEVEL EDUCATION MONTH" IN THE
STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS,
Middle level education has a special and unique function in the nation's
educational
system. The most common middle school arrangement groups children from sixth to
eighth
grades; and
WHEREAS,
Middle school students are generally between the ages of 10 and 14, These
young
adolescents are undergoing dramatic physical, social, emotional, and
intellectual growth,
and
are especially vulnerable during these tumultuous years; and
WHEREAS,
The habits and values established during early adolescence will oftentimes
have
a critical and life-long influence on a young person and can resultantly impact
directly on
the
future health and welfare of this state and our nation; and
WHEREAS,
An adequate public understanding of the distinctive mission of the middle
level
school is necessary for that mission to succeed; now therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence
Plantations hereby proclaims the month of March, 2006 to be "National
Middle Level
Education
Month." We call upon the Rhode Island Commissioner of Elementary and
Secondary
Education
and all the citizens of the State of Rhode Island to observe this month with
appropriate
programs,
activities and ceremonies; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That this House recognizes, thanks and fully supports the efforts of those
teacher,
support staff and administrators who work in Rhode Island's middle schools
providing
support
and hope to students through education and various schools activities and
programs; and
be
it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit
duly certified copies of this resolution to the Rhode Island Commissioner of
Elementary
and
Secondary Education and the Rhode Island Middle Level Educators (RIMLE).
