CELEBRATING THE 70TH
ANNIVERSARY OF ALDRICH JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

WHEREAS,
Seven decades ago, Aldrich High School opened their doors for the first
time. Aldrich, built in 1935,
was the second high school built in Warwick, and was necessary in
order to accommodate the
community's burgeoning population; and
WHEREAS,
The school was dedicated and named after United States Senator Nelson
Wilmarth Aldrich, who was born
on November 6, 1841 in Foster, Rhode Island. An influential
Republican and self-made man,
Senator Aldrich was a descendant of Roger Williams and had
been educated in the local
"common" schools. He represented Rhode Islanders in the United
States Senate for thirty years,
having also served for one term in Congress and two terms in the
Rhode Island Legislature; and
WHEREAS,
In 1955, the school changed to become a Junior High School, but creating
outstanding educational
experiences for Warwick's children remained their first priority; and
WHEREAS,
For seventy continuous years of providing an exemplary education for all
Aldrich students, and for
providing positive contributions to the quality of life for the citizens of
Warwick, the teachers, students
and parents of Aldrich Junior High School are wholly deserving
of our praise and recognition;
now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence Plantations hereby
recognizes the 70th Anniversary of Aldrich Junior High School.
We congratulate the
administration, staff, students and their families for working together to
build
an outstanding educational
experience and for their commitment to excellence; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy
of this resolution to the Aldrich Junior High School in Warwick,
Rhode Island.
