H O U S E  R E S O L U T I O N

REQUESTING THE RHODE ISLAND DEPARTMENT OF ELEMENTARY AND

SECONDARY EDUCATION TO STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF SPECIFIED

TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Dennigan, Lewiss, Ginaitt, Melo, and Savage

     WHEREAS, School transportation costs have soared over the past decade straining

already overburdened local and state budgets; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby respectfully requests the Commissioner of Elementary and

Secondary Education to study the economic feasibility of a statewide paratransit system for

children with special needs, and to study the feasibility of changing regional districts as they

pertain to school transportation; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That this House requests that the Commissioner report back with findings

and recommendations to the House Finance Committee no later than April 1, 2006; and be it

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Peter McWalters, Commissioner of Elementary

and Secondary Education for the State of Rhode Island, and the Board of Regents for Elementary

and Secondary Education in Rhode Island.
