S O L U T I O N
MEMORIALIZING THE UNITED
STATES CONGRESS TO SUSTAIN THE BLACKSTONE
RIVER VALLEY HERITAGE CORRIDOR
ACT BY SUPPORTING REAUTHORIZATION
LEGISLATION

WHEREAS,
The Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Act was signed
into law on November 10, 1986;
and
WHEREAS,
The noble purpose of the Commission is "to preserve the heritage and
cultural landscape of the
birthplace of America's Industrial Revolution"; and
WHEREAS,
Enormously successful since its inception, the Commission has created a
partnership connecting the
communities that lie between Providence and Worcester in a shared
vision and mission; and
WHEREAS,
Visitor centers, museums, restoration of historic sites such as Slater Mill,
and the rejuvenation of the
river's aquatic and vegetative life are but a few of the tremendously
worthwhile visions carried out
by the Corridor Commission; and
WHEREAS,
For nearly twenty years, through the diligence and hard work of Rhode
Island's Congressional
Delegation, the United States Congress has twice sustained the funding
and good works of the Corridor
Commission; and
WHEREAS,
On November 10, 2006, the Corridor Act will expire unless it is once again
reauthorized through
legislation; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence Plantations hereby
strongly supports and applauds the eminently good works
accomplished by the Corridor
Commission since its initiation; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That this House respectfully urges the United States Congress to pass
reauthorization legislation
that will sustain the enormously beneficial work of the John H.
Chaffee Blackstone River
Valley Heritage Corridor Act; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit duly certified copies
of this resolution to the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation,
Robert D. Billington, Chairman
of the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor
Commission, and the Blackstone
River Valley Corridor Keepers.
