S O L U T I O N
DEDICATING THE 2005 HOUSE
SESSION TO "THE GREATEST GENERATION"

WHEREAS,
In the words of Tom Brokaw "When the United States entered World War
II, the U.S. government turned
to ordinary Americans and asked of them extraordinary service,
sacrifice and heroics…";
and
WHEREAS,
Throughout American history our nation has been propitiously blessed with
so many of her citizenry
willing to serve their country at moments of great peril, and have been
prepared to risk all and
sacrifice so very much in order to protect our precious freedoms and
liberties; and
WHEREAS,
The heroism of the World War II generation embodies the personification of
what makes our country so
glorious. Men and women, from all walks of life, set aside their day to
day lives, put their dreams and
hopes on hold, and answered the call to duty with a courage and
determination of purpose that
brought honor and distinction not only to themselves, but to an
entire world; and
WHEREAS,
Creating the greatest fighting force this world had ever seen, 16 million men
and women serving America in
the Armed Forces during World War II defeated tyranny in
Europe and Asia and kept
freedom alive for all future generations; and
WHEREAS,
As we meet during this 2005 session of the Rhode Island General
Assembly, let us pay homage to
and never forget the sacrifices made by this generation of men
and women, whose noble
sacrifices have enabled us to stand here today enjoying the liberties and
freedoms we hold so dear in our
hearts; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence Plantations hereby
proclaims that the 2005 House Session will be dedicated to "The
Greatest Generation",
thank you and God bless you; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit duly certified copies
of this resolution to House Speaker William J. Murphy, House
Majority Leader Gordon D. Fox,
House Minority Leader Robert A. Watson, and Chairman of the
House Veteran's Affairs
Committee, Kenneth Carter.
