S O L U T I O N
PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 1, 2005
AS "SOCIAL WORK EDUCATION DAY" IN THE
STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS,
Social work is a profession for those who possess a strong desire to help
improve folk's lives. Social
workers help individuals function the best way they can in their
environment and in their
relationships. They help to solve people's personal and family
problems; and
WHEREAS,
Social work education prepares students for work as professionally qualified
social workers. The goal is to
help develop competent and accountable social workers who are
able to strengthen families and
their communities; and
WHEREAS,
Employment of social workers is expected to increase faster than the
average for all occupations
through 2010. Concern about crime, juvenile delinquency, and
services for the mentally ill,
the mentally retarded, the physically disabled, AIDS patients, and
individuals and families in
crisis is impelling the necessity for more social workers; and
WHEREAS,
Rhode Island College of Social Work, Providence College Department of
Social Work, Salve Regina
University Department of Social Work, and the Community College
of Rhode Island Social Work
Education are helping to fill the imminent call for future social
workers through comprehensive
education and training programs; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That the House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence Plantations hereby
proclaims February 1, 2005 to be "Social Work Education Day" in
the State of Rhode Island. We
encourage professors, teachers, principals, students and all of the
citizens of this state to
participate in this day, acknowledging the wonderful education by Rhode
Island College of Social Work,
Providence College Department of Social Work, Salve Regina
University Department of
Social Work, and the Community College of Rhode Social Work
Education; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That we recognize and honor the great benefits and invaluable service
professionally trained social
workers provide to the citizens of this state; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit duly certified copies
of this resolution to the Rhode Island Chapter of the National
Association of Social Workers,
Rhode Island College of Social Work, Providence College
Department of Social Work,
Salve Regina University Department of Social Work, and the
Community College of Rhode
Island Social Work Education.
