DEDICATING THE 2004 HOUSE
SESSION AS THE "YEAR OF THE VETERAN"

WHEREAS,
Throughout American history this nation has been blessed and fortunate that
so many of its citizenry have
been willing to serve our nation at moments of great peril and have
been willing to risk all and
sacrifice so much to protect our precious freedoms and liberties; and
WHEREAS,
From Valley Forge to Gettysburg, from Normandy to Iwo Jima, from the
hills of Korea to the jungles
of Vietnam to the desert of Iraq, America’s service men and women
in the Army, Navy, Air Force,
Marines, Coast Guard and National Guard have always answered
the call of duty and served our
nation with honor, courage and distinction; and
WHEREAS,
Today hundreds of thousands of United States service men and women, and
hundreds of Rhode Island
citizens are serving their nation in Iraq. As we meet during this 2004
session of the Rhode Island
General Assembly let us please not forget that our service men and
women are away from their
families and loved ones serving their nation under difficult
circumstances to protect the
freedoms and liberties we hold so dear to our hearts; now, therefore
be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence Plantations hereby
proclaims that the 2004 House Session will be dedicated as the
“Year of the Veteran”; and be
it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy
of this resolution to House Speaker William J. Murphy, House
Majority Leader Gordon D. Fox,
House Minority Leader Robert A. Watson, and Chairman of the
House Veteran’s Affairs
Committee, Kenneth Carter.
