AS "RHODE ISLAND ARCHIVES WEEK" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS,
The historical records of Rhode Island, New England, and the nation are
crucial to our understanding of
the past and in planning for our shared future; and
WHEREAS,
Historical records repositories are instrumental in collecting, preserving,
organizing and making available
records that document the history of Rhode Island, the region,
and country for present and
future generations; and
WHEREAS,
The New England Archivists is an organization celebrating its 30th year of
existence; and
WHEREAS,
It is a goal of archivists and manuscript curators to increase public
awareness of their mission to
safeguard knowledge of our intellectual, cultural, social, and
governmental heritage; now,
therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations
hereby proclaims the week of
November 2-8, 2003 as "Rhode Island Archives Week" in the State
of Rhode Island; and be it
further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to
transmit a duly certified copy
of this resolution to the New England Archivists and to the
Coordinator of the Rhode
Island Historical Records Advisory Board.
