PROCLAIMING MARCH 9TH - 15TH AS GIRL SCOUT WEEK IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS, The Girl
Scouts of the United States of America Organization is the world's
largest voluntary organization for girls and
adults. It was founded on March 12, 1912 by Juliette
Gordon Low in Savannah, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, The Girl
Scouts Organization is designed to encourage girls' growth in self-
confidence and leadership skills, providing them
with a chance to reach their fullest potential.
The organization inspires girls with the highest
ideals of character, conduct, patriotism and
service; and
WHEREAS,
Participation in the Girl Scouts has grown from 18 girls participating in
1912 to 3.5 million young women and adult
members today. It is the largest organization for
girls in the world; and
WHEREAS, Rhode
Island Girl Scouts have participated in service projects for the benefit
of food banks, soup kitchens, Salvation Army,
the American Diabetes Association, First Night,
women's centers and shelters, homes for the
elderly and the Rhode Island Blood Bank; now,
therefore be it
RESOLVED,
That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence
Plantations hereby proclaims March 9th through March 15th to be Girl Scout Week
in
the
State of Rhode Island; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That we honor, congratulate and support the goals of the Girl Scouts of the
United
States and thank them for their ongoing dedication to Rhode Island's young
women and
the
key role they play in promoting and ensuring a brighter and stronger future for
the State of
Rhode
Island; and be it further
RESOLVED,
That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to
transmit
a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Girl Scouts of America, Inc.
